A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android

30  Souls Onboard is a print-and-play board game based on "Colony", a short story by Phillip K. Dick. You and three other players assume the role of a shape-shifting entity and your goal is to kill all the humans that have infiltrated your alien planet.

DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS:

Download the attached PDF and make sure to print double-sided so you can cut out the cards.

RULES:

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Printed materials, one die, scissors, tape, and a writing utensil (for keeping score)

ASSEMBLING THE GAME

Print and cut out the game board, game pieces, playing cards, and scorecards. Organize the playing cards by their color and leave in face-down piles. Place game pieces on the game board where it is marked START. Give each player a scorecard and a writing utensil.

ON YOUR TURN

Roll the die and move ahead for that many spaces. Pick up the corresponding card to the space you’ve landed on and read it aloud. If you kill anyone, cross them off on your scorecard. If not, stay there. Discard your card. Then, move to the next player.

BIOMES

There are four biomes on the board - Swamp Land, Lake, Forests, and Mountains. The start of each biome is marked by a purple line. Each biome may have more or less of a chance of landing kills than others.

CARDS

There are four types of cards in the game: Green Aliens, Yellow Stars, Red Moons, and Blue Planets. Shuffle and reuse from the discard pile as needed.

GREEN ALIENS - 12

  • These cards will kill four or more people in one go.

YELLOW STARS - 12

  • Star cards allow you to kill one person. It ain’t much, but it’s honest work.

RED MOONS - 25

  • Red moon cards kill 2-3 people.

BLUE PLANETS - 25

  • Blue planet cards will either give you an additional turn or send you backward.

KEEPING SCORE

Each player gets a scorecard and writes their name on the line. Cross off one circle for each person you’ve killed as you go. Bonus kills can be noted on the back using tally marks.

HOW TO WIN

The goal is to reach the end AND have all thirty souls aboard your scorecard crossed off. The first player to achieve both these things wins. The game continues until everyone has crossed the finish line and completed their scorecard. (This may mean the last player gets one big long turn!)

IF YOU REACH THE END AND STILL HAVE PERSONNEL LEFT TO KILL: You may return to the start of the Mountain biome on your turn (i.e. you are 5 spaces away and roll a 5; you reach the end and return to the start of the Mountain biome and pick up that card).

IF YOU KILL ALL YOUR PERSONNEL BEFORE REACHING THE END: You must reach the end in order to win! You may keep killing along the way; each additional kill will be noted on the reverse of the scorecard. This can be used as a tiebreaker or simply as bragging rights.
